Two friends, bonded by past extraordinary adventure, make a pact to share a grand adventure whenever fortune allows. Josh Thomas and J.J. Kelley meet up in the small fishing town of Seward, Alaska. After a winter of correspondence over essential gear, food, and expectations for the summer's expedition, Kelley and Thomas begin their "Pedal to the Midnight Sun."
Set to embark on a 1,300-mile wilderness bike journey across America's last frontier the two young men say their farewells to a small group of well-wishers as they are delivered on the gravel shores of Southeast Alaska by a World War II style landing craft. They mount their gear-laden bikes brimming with the confidence of youth.
The team of two ride off to the cheers of a few dozen fan. Their objectives are simple:
* Bike across the biggest state in the union
* Travel the most rugged and wild roads in the state
* Experience the stories of Alaska
* Capture the hearts of many by producing an expedition film
Kelley and Thomas play the roll of newcomer explorers making mistakes and falling down hard. They address the hardships of moving through a wild land without the luxuries of a roof over your head and all the pleasantries that come with it. However, the friends are inspired and their light humor tells the world they will never admit defeat.
The spirited story features the wildlife, wild people, oddities of the isolated North Star state. The fellows share a 20th century resonance philosophy of throwing all your possessions together and make off with a grand adventure. The guys use humor and offer an honest view of what it takes to cross a continent under your own power: living outside everyday, having to find your own water everyday, and dealing with close calls from some of the nations most extraordinary trucking hauls.
